Join the FOCUS User Group

What is the FOCUS User Group?

The FOCUS User Group is a moderated group that meets weekly to:

  • Create and update Use Cases with SQL queries for Practitioners to use with FOCUS datasets
  • Answer questions from FOCUS Project Members about requirements and real-world experience
  • Provide feedback on the Specification, and your use of FOCUS datasets including issues, requests for changes, and conformance questions

Come prepared to contribute!  This interactive, one-hour, virtual discussion forum is your chance to get help and to help others with their FOCUS journey, guide the FOCUS Project with feedback, and learn more about what is happening in the FOCUS ecosystem.

When does the group meet?

The EMEA group meets weekly via Zoom for 1 hour at 9:00 AM Eastern / 14:00 UTC on most Tuesdays.

The APJ group meets weekly via Zoom for 1 hour at 03:00 UTC on most Wednesdays.

The Americas group meets weekly via Zoom for 1 hour at 10:00 AM Eastern time on most Fridays.

Apply to Join

You need to be part of the FinOps community as an approved Practitioner or Member to attend.

Upon approval, you will receive a calendar invitation to all FOCUS User Group calls in the selected region.

Who should join?

FOCUS Project Members are not able to join the FOCUS User Group. The FOCUS User Group is only open to NON-MEMBERS of the FOCUS Project.

FinOps Practitioners: Anyone who performs FinOps in multiple clouds, with diverse service usage, at large scale, using a diversity of discounting mechanisms, and who is able to share use cases (not data) about requirements for reporting. You do not have to be using FOCUS to join this group, but you should have diverse cloud usage and be willing to share your use cases.

SaaS and Sustainability data experts – Additionally, we are looking for people who are familiar with SaaS billing data, or with Sustainability data, to help us improve the Specification to support these datasets.

If this sounds like you, please apply to join the FOCUS User Group. Provide some details on how you’re using FOCUS today and what you can share.

For more information, read the Proposal Document.

What will you get out of joining?

You will stay up-to-date on what is happening with the FOCUS Project, and have a chance to guide the Project with your feedback.

We will also bring in fellow practitioners to share how they are using FOCUS, so you can learn how to get started with the Specification.

What will you contribute to the group?

You will share use cases about requirements for reporting and for performing other FinOps Capabilities.

For example, FOCUS Members might ask for information from those who use On Demand Capacity Reservations, and ask what reporting you require or provide regarding the utilization, waste, individual resource tracking, KPIs associated with ODCRs, etc. You would not provide data, but descriptions of your reporting, how you see that data currently, and how you’d like to report but cannot now.
